P03 - Constructing memory places about AIDS: ABIA’s experience

With the goal to preserve memory of the HIV/AIDS epidemic response, ABIA, through the Documentation and Resources Center (CEDOC), is implementing activities of collecting identification, filling and availability of AIDS knowledge. In 2000 and 2002, surveys had been conducted, and they evidenced the small amount of documentation centers in AIDS organization in Brazil. Besides, it was perceived that existed a few systematization on information diffusion. Concerning this situation, CEDOC has developed activities of skills building on HIV/AIDS, beyond the translation and adaptation of a manual, produced by the Healthlink Worldwide the creation and organization of documentation centers. In December of 2002, the I Seminary “Organization of resource centers - the importance of the knowledge preservation in HIV/AIDS” was organized, with the participation of 40 representatives, where it was presented the preliminary version of the manual. As a result of the suggestions debated during the Seminary, it was produced th e final version, with the title & quot; How to Organize a Documentation Center - Democratization, Organization and Access to the Knowledge & quot;. The manual was an important tool for the discussion in the workshop & quot;Planning and Organization of a Documentation Center & quot;, carried out in November of 2003; 80 representatives of NGOs, participated in for governmental sectors and universities, all around Brazil and Latin America. This kind of work reinforces the actions developed for the institutions, promoting the preservation and organization of the social history of the AIDS epidemic, offering support to the researchers and people interested in the AIDS epidemic.
