P12 - Promoting the accessibility to the complete texts of scientific articles in the School of Medicine at São Paulo University: traditional needs and innovative possibilities

The information recovery and the documents achievement as an essential activity in education field, research and health assistance in pursuit of academic bringing up to date and services have been passing threw changes about the access and the obtaining ways to these documents, mostly originated from the use of new technologies. It is up to libraries and information professionals of health to intermediating this process arranging to their users quality products. The paper tackles the recovery evolution of documents, mostly scientific articles, in the Library and Documentation Service of the School of Medicine at São Paulo University - BC/SBD/FMUSP. It reports and analyses the different ways of obtaining articles and complete texts responding to the necessities and the increasing users´ informative needs for academic aims and research at the Complex School of Medicine and Clinics Hospital - FMUSP/HC. The efforts and actions of the BC/SBD/FMUSP about services use of bibliographies exchanges (SCAD-BIREME and C OMUT-IBICT) besides the online way. Concerning this direction, it analyses as well the use of Portals (CAPES and SIBINET) which unable the recovery, for instance the access to electronic magazines in the whole text (OVID - dot.lib), subscribed by the Library and Documentation Service since 2002 and yearly repeated, according access reports done in each one of them.  Numeral dices issued about this services reveal that, as increases the number of available electronic magazines, it increases as well the achievement of online articles toward loss of the conventional printed ways; thus still indicating that, in spite of the recovery is electronic, the preferred support to reading is still the printed paper one. These practices follow evolution provides the SBD/FMUSP assistance to decide about services measuring and shape of the technological field, always aiming to come up to expectation and needs of bibliographic researches of users.
