P154 - Development of remote information resources

Participantes:
The Alzheimer’s Association (U.S.) is composed of a central office and network of 81 chapters.  The mission is 3 fold: 1) respond to inquiries related to Alzheimer’s disease; 2) support the staff; 3) develop the capabilities of local chapters to provide information services.  This poster focuses on the third goal.  Based on a needs assessment we developed a series of tools and training classes to develop local information services.  Initial activities focused on building local collections and moved into developing local information skills.  We used training at conferences, local training, teleconferences, print toolkits, and Web based training--partnering with local staff when possible.  The tools developed include: Self-Assessment Check-list; Marketing Tool kit; Automating Questionnaire; Core Lists; Copyright Primer; Video Guide; and Web Seminars on Establishing an Online Catalog, Basic Online Searching, and Evaluating Web sites.  Some of the primary learnings have been: remote sites are most recept ive to hearing information from colleagues; systems to teach new staff in response to turnover are mandatory; multiple approaches are needed; librarians use too much jargon.
