P25 - The expanding role of information professionals in evidence-based publications at the BMJ Publishing Group

The BMJ Publishing Group in the UK, produces a number of evidence-based products for healthcare professionals and the public. Information professionals have always been involved in the literature searching for relevant articles and their initial appraisal, but increasingly the role has expanded, to include, supporting the development of new topics, detailed planning of updates and devising new search strategies and appraisal criteria for developing work areas such as diagnostics, etc. In this poster, we will look at the range of activities that information specialists are working on, both in the production of publications and in supporting their use. We will discuss how these new roles impact on the quality of work ultimately produced and the important contribution that librarians/information professionals can make in evidence-based healthcare publishing.
