P44 - A Fuzzy System for Information about Sleep Disorders

A good sleep is necessary to improve life quality. Although many of the sleep disorders are unknown for the non specialists a primary diagnostic can be done from some patients clinical symptoms if the basic information is got. The objective of this work is to present an expert system to help non sleep specialists to find information in the web about sleep disorders. The system is developed in ESBuilder and is based in Fuzzy Logic; its interface supports incomplete, ambiguous or imprecise information in the questions answers. The knowledge base is built up from a specialist’s knowledge; the knowledge acquisition was made with recording interviews. The system has a question-answer user interface where the user can specify his interests and looks for the information he needs. The main importance of such a system is to improve approximate specialists’ suggestions to imprecise questions answers. When a non specialist looks for information he does not have clearly in his mind good key words or what is exactly the information he needs. Generally, in this cases, his reasoning is approximate and answers to questions can be inexact. The user interface is simple and can be easily handled.
