P61 - Analysis of SciELO Brazil criteria: evaluation instrument, monitoring and measurement of brazilian scientific journal quality

Participantes:
The process of creation and development of the SciELO Brazil collection is supported by selection criteria which allow quality assessment of the Brazilian scientific journals and monitoring of its performance, based on the analysis of data generated throughout the process.  “SciELO Brazil Criteria” comprise a formal mechanism which contributes to the formulation of policies to improve the quality of Brazilian scientific journals and their insertion in the international scientific context. The study presents the analysis of selection and evaluation criteria of the SciELO Brazil collection scientific journals, based on the identification of specific characteristics of each selection performed, as well as the results of this process. Data related to the 8 (eight) selection processes performed until January, 2005 were considered for the analysis of the selection process development of SciELO Brazil collection scientific journals. The instruments used for measuring the quality of scientific journals are describ ed as to the form of presentation and scientific content, and the results of the selection processes are quantified. The sources of supplementary information used in the selection processes are pointed out, as well as the methodology for the presentation of information and for discussion of the evaluation among Committee members.  The results will allow the identification of the profile of scientific journals submitted to the selection process of the SciELO Brazil collection and how SciELO Brazil Criteria have contributed to the quality improvement of scientific journals included in the selection and evaluation process.
