P75 - Revista Eletrônica de Enfermagem (REE): an experience of scientific open access journal since the beginning

Scientific Journals has as principle to communicate the scientific knowledge, promoting research spreading for community and especially the scientific group. The consulting board which adopts evaluation rules and criteria, conferring trustworthiness and so preserving space for the knowledge advance registration. The Revista Eletrônica de Enfermagem – REE (ISSN 1518-1944), created in 1999, was the first, and for much time the only Brazilian journal in nursing area available exclusively on world-web-wide. It was conceived to divulge nurses scientific production, graduate and undergraduate nursing students, researchers, and, when pertinent, from other health science areas. Descriptive and exploratory study that sough to describe REE contents. It was considered its online publications from 1999 to 2004. Since its first number in 1999, until 2003 was published by an annual volume with two numbers and later three numbers by volume, keeping regularity and periodicity, with free access by electronic address http://www.fen.ufg.br. The editorial board is constituted by PhD researchers from Brazil and other countries. The instructions for manuscripts submission respects the criteria defined for agencies that analyze, classify and evaluate the journals quality to catalog in scientific literature databases. The manuscripts, after peer-review and in respect to the instructions, are prepared for electronic publishing format. Until the 3rd volume – number 2, the texts was edited only in “html” (hipper text markup language) and after the 4th volume the “PDF” (Portable Document Format) texts presentation was also adopted. Regarding to the texts, about 73% are original articles, 9% actualization/divulgating article, 6% case study and 11% is thesis or dissertations summaries. The authors are from several Brazilian states, distinguishing Goiás, São Paulo, Paraná, Ceará, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, among others states, also existing international contributors, however low down (U.S.A, Chile. and Colombia). According to texts describers, the subjects are related to Nursing, Gynecological and Obstetrical Nursing Assistance, Psychiatry and Mental Health, Public Health, Education, and others. The REE is based in national and international indexes, distinguishing: LATINDEX, DOAJ, CUIDEN, UIPD, BVS-Human Reproduction, and, last December were approved the indexation in LILACS/BVS. Regarding all these references it’s possible to conclude that the REE, foreseeing the future of the communication and globalization trends, invested in a bold format and consists today of an important resource to the knowledge spreading produced by Brazilian Nursing.
