P102 - Virtual reference services: grants for establishment in brazilian libraries

The study presents grants for the establishment of Virtual Reference Services (VRS) in brazilian libraries. The existing electronic resources and the integration of multiple technologies make possible the appearance of new services, developed and available in virtual environment. As a result, we have the VRS in attempt to fulfill a pre-existing demand, which require more dinamic, interactive and personalized services. A definition of the traditional and virtual reference services is made, relating their particular characteristics.The study followed the best existing and spread practices in the literature of the area and in relationed sites of VRS Projects like The Virtual Reference Desk (VRD) and Collaborative Digital Reference Service (CDRS), which were raised with the purpose of optimizing the relation among users, librarians and informational sources in virtual environment. Finally, the study enroll guidelines that will help to establish the initial steps to set up a VRS in brazilian libraries.
