P119 - An information network for health development: the bolivian experience

The Public Health and Thematics Virtual Library - PHTVL (Environmental Health, Disasters, and Nursery) of Bolivia is an information network enclosing and spreading scientific and technical information from Bolivian institutions in the field of public health through Internet.
The aim of the Public Health and Thematics Virtual Library – Bolivia is to strengthen the cooperative efforts between institutions related to the health sector (government, education, health research and cooperation), under the principles of equity and solidarity. It promotes an equitable, timely and efficient access to scientific and technical information on health, under quality rules, in order to contribute to the development of the health in the country and to strength the processes of:
• Strategic, tactical and operative decision making under all
circumstances.
• Management, planning and development of institutions.
• Education and research knowledge development.
• Alignment with other i nformation networks at a national, regional and
worldwide level.
The training of human resources in information analysis and in the descentralized operation of the PHTVL systems is in accordance to standardized methodologies. As a result, we have developed capabilities, knowledge, abilities, and skills empowering the objectives of the PHTVL. In the development and implementation of the network are involved a broad and multidisciplinary team of professionals, sharing their knowledge and experience. They constitute the main link between the producer and the user of information. A key component of the network is the development of activities related to information, education and communication – IEC, focused on the users.
