Use of the Portal of Electronic Journals in Biomedical Science: a case study  of assimilation of information

The present work stem from a question: Is the use of the CAPES Portal of Electronic Journals contributing to the production of new knowledge in biomedical science? A study is being proposed about the impact of the use of CAPES Portal in the process of generation of knowledge for doctoral researchers in biomedical science. CAPES Portal is seem as an aggregate of information, defined by Barreto as significant structures with the competence of generating knowledge in given user. From this perspective, the Portal is constituted by databases of scientific journals that constitute static “stocks of information”, for the purpose of the production of new knowledge through the transfer of information for the users` needs. The aim of the study is to analyze the process of assimilation of information in a sample of users made up doctoral researchers who use CAPES Portal through the located islan d of services in the Central Library of the Center of Health Sciences of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. This research can be considered exploratory, descriptive and qualitative, using the technique of the critical incident, which allowed a of what happens in the contact between an user and a stock of information.
