Study of information channels utilized by associated doctors of UNIMED – Ponta Grossa, Paraná - Brazil

Study of information channels utilized by associated doctors of UNIMED – Ponta Grossa, Paraná - Brazil

The objective of this study is the identification of channels and information sources used by associated doctors of UNIMED – Ponta Grossa, Parana State; and the choice factors for these information’s ways. Additionally, the usefulness and helpfulness grade analysis of these ways was done. The research was carried out by qualitative and quantitative analysis of data acquired using an elaborated questionnaire sent to the doctors in their offices and hospitals. The percentage of answered questionnaire was about 43.9% from the 155. The analysis result shows the composition according the academic formation: 80.8% of investigated doctors concluded specialization courses and the majority of them, giving activities in related areas; 2.9% concluded master courses; 9.0% gave the degree of a doctor (postgraduate); 1.5% are in course of their doctor degree; and 5.7% no answered this question. In the e valuated professionals, 95.6% of them have their activities in clinical medicine; 2.9% are professor and researcher additionally their clinical activities; and 1.5% are professor and clinical activities. In the professors mean, 45.6% usually have the lecture which the scientific research divulgation way. In the priorities scale, 70.6% of them consider the Internet which the very important information way and the Bireme Net was cited by 57.3%. The information’s searching is concerned with the professional’s activities for 98.5% of the evaluated mean and 80.9% of them subscript specialized magazines. The mains sources of information detected by this work are: Brazilian medical printed magazines (80.9%) and books, manuals and other texts (73.5%).  The 36.8% of professionals answered about difficulties to find and to access information mainly by the great variety of information sources and non-availability time for information search.
