Presentation of bibliometrical indexes through JCR as a tool for evaluation of the scientific repercussion of publications in Biomedical Engineering and related. Such indexes may also be used for the evaluation of individual scientific production in order to establish the basic series of relevant publications in the area which is fundamental in directing and motivating the scientific production generated by the areas of research of the School of Engineering of São Carlos at USP. There are researchs working with radiographic image by computer, ultrasound in bones, neuromuscular electrical stimulations, hand prosthesis and others. The ranking of publications is established according to indicators such impact factor, immediacy index, and half-life of an article, which define or compare the relative importance of a publication based on age, speed and frequency whith which the articles are mentioned. These data are obtained from the JCR (Journal Citation Reports), a publication from the ISI (Institute for Scienti fic Information), which enables and critical evaluation of the most important magazines in the world in a systematic and objective manner. It is the only resource which offers statistical information based on mentioning data through reference of the articles that it indexes, which makes it possible to measure the influence and the impact of the research. The Data Base ISI is in the center of all the product of research, arising as essential provider of information for the worldwide research community. It is continuously updated and used as a tool for investigation and performance in the strict process of evaluation and selection of publications.
