The National Sub-Network of Information in the area of Oral Health Sciences was started in 1991 with the approval of a project for the development of a Brazilian information system for the area of Dentistry, presented to the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, in a partnership of the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information (BIREME), the University of São Paulo and the USP's Faculty of Odontology’s Service of Odontological Documentation.. As off 2003, it was named Sistema de Informação Especializado na área de Odontologia (SIEO) (Information System Specialized in the area of Dentistry). This group is currently working on the development of the Virtual Health Library in the area of Dentistry (VHL Dentistry) which has resulted in changes in organizational processes and in the relationship with new technologies and their consequences. This paper deals with the analysis of the implementation of a system for sharing activities and information, with SIEO librarians´ mentions on the change s in the participating Brazilian dentistry libraries, brought by their integration into the information system, and uses an open questionnaire as a data collection instrument. The expectation of this research is to find out if the SIEO libraries benefited from the participation in the network and if the capacity to provide further services has actually helped the technical education of the professionals involved. Also, it is intended for verifying the SIEO contribution to the National Network of Information in Health Sciences coordinated by BIREME, as well as checking the performance of the National Coordinating Center in the area of Dentistry regarding the management of this network, besides raising considerations on the construction of the Virtual Health Library Dentistry. This research will improve the generation of knowledge on the System dynamics and will maximize the results of shared activities, strengthening the SIEO and will diffuse the information management practices for the dentistry community.
