Sharing insights in setting up and managing information centers and services: a Toolkit

Participantes:
The ‘CANDHI’ project (Central American Network for Disaster and Health Information), an initiative funded by the US National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the European Community Humanitarian Office (ECHO), with support from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR), created information centers on disasters and health at several health science libraries and other institutions. This project has produced many valuable results and lessons learned during the past 4 years. In order to share useful insights with institutions in the whole region and to facilitate the design of additional information centers using appropriate technology and limited resources, a toolkit is being created by the Regional Disaster Information Center (CRID) in consultation with other institutions and experts. In addition, this new toolkit will be an important instrument in providing local and regional assistance for creating disaster and health information management capacities. The toolkit contains concrete and easy to follow guidelines on how to set up and manage information centers, technical models to ensure sustainability of information services. The toolkit will make it easier for institutions or organizations to start or improve their information services. Multiple models are included, allowing users to select the methods most appropriate for their needs.
